Crowd Scholar Application (2024)


Introduction

Crowd Scholar is excited to be offering its seventh set of university scholarships to students across England & Wales. To apply for a scholarship, you must complete this online application. There is no alternative method of applying. Please read these instructions carefully and in their entirety.

The application consists of six mandatory sections:

  1. Basic Information
  2. Achieved and Predicted Grades
  3. Extracurriculars and Work Experience
  4. Personal Essay
  5. Short Answer Question
  6. Teacher Recommendation

And three optional sections:

  • Hollyport Capital Crowd Scholar Supplement
  • John Bennett Trust Crowd Scholar Supplement
  • Quinlan Crowd Scholar Supplement

In order to be eligible for a Crowd Scholar scholarship, you must meet each of the following criteria:

  1. Eligible for Free School Meals
  2. A UK resident
  3. Between 17 - 19 years old (at some point in 2024)
  4. Planning on starting university (in the UK) in the 2024-25 academic year

There are additional eligibility criteria for the Hollyport Capital, John Bennett Trust, and Quinlan Crowd Scholar programs. The details can be found at crowdscholar.co.uk/scholarships.

Crowd Scholar is a competitive scholarship scheme. Applicants who closely meet or exceed our criteria will progress to the next round (a half hour video interview). Should you be selected for an interview, you will be required to prove that you meet the eligibility requirements listed above.

Please note that your application will not save. We recommend writing your personal essay and short answer question response(s) in a word processor before completing and submitting your application.

Applications are due by midnight on May 31, 2024. Teacher recommendations are due by June 9, 2024 (giving applicants the opportunity to apply right up until the deadline).

Please answer one of the following three essay prompts:

  1. What are you most proud of? Why?
  2. How have your background and upbringing influenced your personal ambitions? (Inspired by Ayman Saeed, 2022 Crowd Scholar)
  3. “A man cannot be too careful in the choice of his enemies.” –Oscar Wilde. Othello and Iago. Dorothy and the Wicked Witch. Autobots and Decepticons. History and art are full of heroes and their enemies. Tell us about the relationship between you and your arch-nemesis (either real or imagined). (Inspired by Martin Krzywy and the University of Chicago)

6. Teacher Recommendation

Please provide your recommender's details below. We will reach out to them directly to receive their recommendation. Please be sure to speak with your recommender about your Crowd Scholar application before submitting your Crowd Scholar application.

Additional Scholarships

Please indicate whether or not you are applying for any of our additional scholarships. If you are not eligible for or not applying to any of the additional scholarships listed below, simply leave everything unchecked and click "Next."

Recall the eligibility criteria:

  • Hollyport Capital Crowd Scholar: you must be interested in pursuing a career in finance
  • Quinlan Crowd Scholar: you must have spent at least 13 weeks in the UK care system
  • John Bennett Trust Crowd Scholar: you must identify as Black and intend to study law at university

Note that your decision to apply to additional scholarships does not affect your Crowd Scholar application (or vice versa).



Hollyport Capital Crowd Scholar Supplement

Please answer the question below in order to be considered for a Hollyport Capital Crowd Scholarship.

John Bennett Trust Crowd Scholar Supplement

There are no supplemental application questions that must be answered to be considered for a John Bennett Trust Crowd Scholarship. Please simply confirm below that you meet the eligibility criteria (i.e. you identify as Black and intend to study law at university).


Quinlan Crowd Scholar Supplement

There are no supplemental application questions that must be answered to be considered for a Quinlan Crowd Scholarship. Please simply confirm below that you meet the eligibility criteria (i.e. you spent at least 13 weeks in the UK care system). If selected for a Scholarship, you will work with Crowd Scholar to confirm your eligibility.


We would like to emphasise that it is an applicant's responsibility to make sure that their recommender submit a recommendation. Without a recommendation, an application is considered incomplete. Please stay in touch with your recommender and ensure that they submit a recommendation on your behalf.
